Terms of Service

Effective July 10, 2026 · Dictalus is made by Varsalus, Inc.

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using the Dictalus app or website (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Dictalus is a speaking-practice tool: it records short spoken takes at your request, transcribes and scores them, and tracks your progress. It is a practice aid, not professional coaching, therapy, or speech-language pathology, and its scores are informational, not professional assessments.

3. Your account

• You must provide a valid email address and keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
• You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings; deletion is permanent.

4. Your content

You own your recordings, transcripts, and any custom prompts you create. You grant us the limited license needed to operate the Service — to process your audio into transcripts and scores, store your practice data, and sync it to your devices. Audio is deleted after scoring by default, as described in the Privacy Policy. We claim no other rights to your content.

5. Acceptable use

• Don't use the Service to record other people without their consent.
• Don't attempt to break, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the Service, or to access other users' data.
• Don't use the Service for anything unlawful.

6. Subscriptions and free tier

The free tier includes a limited number of scored reps per day. If we offer a paid subscription, pricing and terms will be shown before you subscribe, purchases made on iOS or Android are processed and managed through the app store you bought them in, and you can cancel any time through that store; access continues to the end of the paid period.

7. Availability and changes

We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or stop the Service. We will make reasonable efforts to give notice of material changes. Your data-export tool is always available in Settings.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Transcriptions and scores are automated and may contain errors.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Varsalus, Inc. will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Sections 4 and 8–12 survive termination.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

12. Changes to these Terms

If we change these Terms, we will update this page and the effective date above, and highlight material changes in the app. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
